AfricaLics 2025 End of Year Party Celebrating Achievements and Leadership Transitions

AfricaLics successfully held its End of Year Party on 5 December 2025, bringing together AfricaLics alumni and members, including the Secretary General, Dr. Ann Kingiri; the Vice-President, Dr. Justina Onumah; and members of the Secretariat, in a vibrant celebration of achievements, reflection, and forward-looking dialogue. The event provided an important platform to review accomplishments in 2025 and to outline key activities and strategic priorities planned for 2026.

A major highlight was to congratulate AfricaLics Visiting Fellows and Academy participants with their accomplishments in the past year and welcome new alumni to the network.

The event marked an important leadership transition, with the announcement of the new AfricaLics Secretary General Dr. Maruf Sanni who will take over from Dr. Ann Kingiri in January 2026. AfricaLics members expressed their deep appreciation to Dr. Kingiri for her dedicated service and significant contributions, while warmly welcoming Dr. Sanni into his new role.

In addition, the event celebrated the appointment of new members to the AfricaLics Scientific Board (ASB). The incoming ASB members were congratulated and welcomed as follows:

  • Dr. Glenda Kruss (Southern Africa)
  • Dr. Elvis Avenyo (Southern Africa)
  • Dr. Abdi Yuya (East Africa)
  • Dr. Patrick Marie Nga Ndjobo (Central Africa)
  • Dr. Golam Rabbani (Outside Africa)

The secretariat also took the opportunity to express sincere gratitude to the outgoing ASB members for their exemplary service and support. Appreciation was extended to Prof. Daniel Kitaw, Prof. Geci Karuri-Sebina, Prof. Diran Soumonni, Dr. Gregory Mvogo, Dr. Rajesh G.K., and Prof. Nadine Machikou, whose contributions have played a vital role in strengthening the AfricaLics network.

The End of Year Party concluded on a positive and celebratory note, reaffirming AfricaLics’ shared vision, strong community, and renewed commitment to impactful research and collaboration in the year ahead.
